a
note from dan zanes americans used to make a lot more music than
they do these days. i have good news! we could easily be doing it again.
parades and panoramas
is my way of showing how much fun old songs can be to learn, sing and
play. i chose my favorite tunes from carl sandburg's classic 1927 folk
song collection entitled "the american songbag" and learned them with
my friends. we put our stamp on these songs and had a wild time doing
it. out of this came a twenty-five song cd and a sixty page booklet
which includes lyrics, chords, some of sandburg's writing, my own thoughts,
and a few dozen historical photos of american musicians.
this is our follow up to "sea music" and the second release in the
traditional music series. although it's not a kids record in the usual
sense, i would recommend it to everyone who likes to hear songs from
our past brought naturally into the present times. these are perfect
tunes for any family band.
