a note from dan zanes this is rocket ship beach, a record of children’s music for the whole family. the songs are mostly traditional, with a few 20th century classics and originals stirred into the mix. the singers and players joining me are, among other things, parents, kids, babysitters, painters, celebrities, architects, and teachers. it’s the sound of people playing together and having a great time doing it!
where is rocket ship beach? it’s where the music is! it’s where you get together to howl at the clouds, to float sounds up through the trees or to watch them swirl around your feet, to try and shake some crazy old songs out of your head, or to stand out in the yard with a pan and catch some new ones as they fall from the sky, or maybe rocket ship beach is part of an island that you have reached by means of a glow–in–the–dark space ship. probably the island has a sparkly beach, open green space everywhere you look and a small friendly new york city (no cars, you can cross the streets whenever you want). most likely it’s inhabited by bugs, birds, and animals (and some nursery rhyme characters), and of course the days and nights are filled with singing and dancing.... i hope that when you hear this, making music will sound like a great time (because it is) and it will sound easy (because it is) and that the next time it’s being made you’ll join in, because no matter where you are or who you are or how old you are, music is a party and everyone’s invited!![]()
